How to Use the Schema Markup Generator

Choose the schema type that matches what the page is actually about. A recipe page gets Recipe markup, a product page gets Product markup, and a blog post gets Article markup. Then fill in the fields. Required fields are marked; the more optional fields you complete, the more complete a picture search engines get of the page.

Click Load Sample on any type to see a filled-in example, then replace the values with your own. When you click Generate, the tool builds JSON-LD you can copy to your clipboard or download as a file.

Only mark up content that visitors can see on the page. Structured data that describes things the page doesn't show (reviews nobody wrote, prices that aren't listed) breaks Google's structured data guidelines and can earn a manual action.

How to Add JSON-LD to Your Website

JSON-LD lives in a <script type="application/ld+json"> tag. Google reads it in either the <head> or the <body>, so you can paste it wherever your platform allows custom code for a single page.

On WordPress, SEO plugins such as Rank Math and Yoast already output some schema (usually WebSite, Organization, and Article or WebPage). Add generated markup for the types your plugin doesn't cover, and avoid publishing two conflicting versions of the same entity on one page. A header-and-footer code plugin or a custom HTML block both work for page-specific markup.

Schema that's the same on every page, such as Organization or WebSite, belongs in your site-wide template. Schema that describes one page, such as Product, Recipe or Event, belongs on that page only.

Test Your Markup Before You Publish

Run generated markup through our Schema Markup Validator to catch syntax errors and missing properties, then check the live page with Google's Rich Results Test. If you need to combine several types into one connected graph, the Schema Nesting Tool handles that, and businesses with several branches can use the Multi-Location Schema Generator.

Not every schema type earns a rich result. Google has scaled back several features over the years: FAQ rich results now appear only for well-known government and health sites, and How-To rich results were removed in 2023. The markup still describes your content to search engines, but set expectations around the types Google currently supports.
